MUA-Router: Maximizing the Utility-of-Allocation for On-chip Pipelining Routers

As an important pipeline stage in the router of Network-on-Chips, switch allocation assigns output ports to input and allows flits transit through without conflicts. Previous work designed efficient strategies by maximizing matching efficiency time series. However, those works neglected interaction between different stages. In this article, we propose concept Utility-of-Allocation (UoA) indicate quality be practically used on-chip routers. We demonstrate that pipelines can interact with each other, UoA maximized if is taken into consideration. Based on these observations, a novel class routers, MUA-Router, proposed maximize collaborative design (co-design) pipelines. MUA-Router achieves goal two ways accordingly implements instance architectures. first, improves mitigating impact endpoint congestion allocation, thus Eca-Router proposed. endpoint-congestion-aware co-design routing computation allocation. Eca-Router, CoD-Router feed back information provide allocator more conflict-free requests. Through pipelines, significantly performance entire network. Evaluation results show our achieve significant improvement moderate overheads.
